  CHAPTER I.
A.  BACKGROUND.
 Skripsi Sastra: Ticketing And Reservation In Pt. Lymarais Tour And Travel Surakarta
Tourism is one of the popular global leisure  activities done by people in the  world to get their satisfaction in diverse experience. The term tourism comes from  Sanskrit which means a complete travel.  The term tourism began to be used after  1960  to replace the term "excursion, trip, and picnic". Nowdays, along with the  development of tourism  in the world,  the  tourism industry has appeared  with its  various facilities that makes the journey easier to be done.

In  this  globalization  era,  the  advancement  in  the  tourism  industry  is  extremely  developed  and  it  is  getting  the  attention  of  government.  Besides,  this  field  can  increase  foreign  exchange.  It  is  also  related  to  increase  employment  opportunities. Tourism industries  has high prospects in the future for the national  development.  In  essence,  tourism  has  a  close  relationship  with  the  goods  and  services  that  provide  pleasure  for  travelers.  If  travelers  are  satisfied  with  the  tourist attraction, they might return. Therefore, all parties involved in the tourism process should strive to give their best service.
Improvement and development of the tourism industry is closely related to  the  factors  which  are  available,  for  example,  transportations,  hotels,  restaurants  and  entertainments.  All  of  the  factors  mentioned  above  have  been  served  in  a  tourism agency called Travel Agency.
Travel  agency  is  a  business  that  organizes  tourist  activities  and  other  services  related  to  the  operation  of  the  tour  (  SKB  DIRJEN  No.  PARPOSTEL.
1    Kep.  16/VIII/1988  ).  Travel  agency  is  an  important  position  in  the  tourism  industries,  as  they  prepare  for  tracking  customer  relationships.  The  activities  of  travel agents are focused on the users confidence by using their services.
There are a lot of travel agencies in Indonesia, especially in Solo. One of the  travel agencies in  Solo is PT. Lymarais Tour and Travel.  There are many services  which is served by PT. Lymarais Tour and Travel. They are : 1). Reservation of  domestic  and  international  airline  tickets  (  including  train  and  ship  ticket  ),  2).
Domestic and international hotel reservations ( Hotel Voucher), 3). Processing of  travel documents ( visa, passport, etc ), 4). Managing MICE, 5). Hajj & Umrah,  6).  Meeting  packages  and  Gala  Gathering  package,  7).  Tour  packages  like  domestic and international tour, 8). Honeymoon package, and 9). JNE service.
Basically,  this  bureau  is  more  dominant  in  selling  airline  tickets,  both  domectic  and  international  tickets.  Here,  the  customer  can  make  a  reservation  before he/she will make an airline ticket.
Reservation  is  seat  reservation  activities  done  by  someone  before  he/she  uses the flight services. Reservations can be made through a travel agent or done  by coming directly to the airline office.  After making the reservation process, the  travel agency or airline offices will make ticket issue which will be a tool or proof  their flight reservation.
As a travel agent which has activities to serve an airline ticket, PT Lymarais  Tour and Travel has had on-line reservation system of Garuda Indonesia Airlines,  Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air, Air Asia, Trigana Air, Kalstar Aviation and Citilink.     Seen  from  the  number  of  airline  reservation  systems,  it  makes  the  writer  focus  to  make  a  final  project  report  on  how  this  system  works  and  how  PT  Lymarais  employees  serve  their  customers,  especially  ticketing  and  reservation  services.
Therefore,  the  title  of  the  final  project  report  is  “  Ticketing  and  Reservation in PT. Lymarais Tour and Travel Surakarta”.
B.  OBJECTIVES.
Based on the background, the objectives are:.
1.  To know the quality of services in PT. Lymarais Tour and Travel.
2.  To describe the process of online ticket reservation in PT. Lymarais Tour and  Surakarta.
3.  To find the problems that often occur in ticketing  operasions and the solution  to overcome the problems in PT. Lymarais Tour and Travel.
C.  BENEFITS.
Hopefully, this project can give the following benefits to :.
1.  Lymarais Tour and Travel.
The writer expected that the final project report will be useful as additional  information  to  develop  the  travel  agency,  especially  PT.  Lymarais  Tour  and  Travel  in  term  of  quality  of  their  service,  PT.  Lymarais  Tour  and  travel  can  manage  the  website  better  in  order  to  improve  the  quality  of  promotion  and  marketing ways.
2.  The Students of English Diploma Program.
The writer expected that the final project report will be useful in the future  as a reference to write final project, for example in writing a final project which  relates  with  Public  Relation  activities  like  analyzing  the  service  quality  of  a  company.
3.  The Writer.
From this job training, the writer expects to :.
a.  Gain  new  knowledge  and  experience  in  real  work  field  especially  in  understanding of the job in travel agency.
b.  Obtain  knowledge  and  experience  in  the  real  work  which  is  under  a  management  regulation,  and  have  the  chance  of  working  in  a  team  with  different characteristics.
c.  Prepare herself to face work field and improve work etiquette.
d.  Be able to handle ticketing services, hotel reservation, and the other services  in the travel agency.
